Sky Birds & Twigs, Susan Felter, 2006
This exhibit focuses on the practices of three artists currently practicing
in the diverse world of contemporary photography. While Susan Felter
has embraced the new possibilities offered by digital imaging software,
both David Pace and Renee Billingslea use silver gelatin printing for
their photographs – a technology first used in 1871. All three artists
continue to engage with the medium’s most lasting debates: its relationship
with painting and its role in recording truth.
Focus is a Contemporary Visions exhibit, co-organized with
the Department of Studio Arts at SUF. The exhibit has grown out of a
collaboration between the photography departments at Syracuse University
in Florence and its partner school, Santa Clara University, in California.
