Ever since its inception in 1959, SUF has been hosted in the "Villa Rossa," a historical building constructed by a noble Italian family, the Gigliucci, in 1892. SU acquired the Villa Rossa from the Gigliucci family in 1963. In fact, until her death in 1981, the Contessa Bona Gigliucci continued to live on the top floor of the Villa Rossa and was well known by SUF students and faculty.
Along with the Villa Rossa itself, SU acquired a small collection of art which has continued to grow over the years. The SUF Collection Research Intern is principally involved in the ongoing project of documenting and researching this collection. This internship is recommended for Art History majors who are interested in pursuing a career in academia, museums or galleries. Strong independent research skills and a flexible schedule are necessary. Intermediate Italian reading skills are a plus. Some weekend work may be required.
