Dr. Vittorio de Leonardis has been employed by Syracuse University in
Florence as a consulting physician since 1988. He is also the Director
of Villanova, a private hospital which specializes in internal medicine,
rehabilitation, orthopedics and trauma, general surgery, otolaryngology
and gynecology.
After obtaining his medical degree from the University of Florence, Dr.
de Leonardis began his career as a physician for the Guardia Medica,
and as a researcher for the Istituto di Semeiotica Medica of the University
of Florence. He then continued his relationship with the University of
Florence as a professor in the medical school, and as a member of the
commission for qualifying exams and final theses.
Dr. de Leonardis is quite familiar with American medical practice, having
spent a year as a research fellow, and then a second year as a visiting
fellow, at the Department of Cardiology at the Washington Hospital Center
in Washington, D.C. During that time he was also inducted into the American
Society of Hypertension as a charter member.
Along with his current position as Director of Villa Donatello, Dr. de Leonardis
has held other important positions within the Florentine medical community,
including Vice President of the Association of Directors of Private Clinics
(A.D.S.O.P.), and Delegate for Tuscany in the Italian Society of Cardiology
of the Accredited Hospitals (S.I.C.O.A.).
Dr. de Leonardis has been the organizer and panelist for many international
conferences and symposiums. He is also widely published, having contributed
numerous articles and abstracts to both Italian and foreign medical journals,
and is the author of two books: Appunti di cardiologia (Guido Gnocchi,
1997) and Elettrocardiografia (Guido Gnocchi, 1998).
