Biographical Profile
Elena Carlini graduated from the School of Architecture in Venice and Columbia University in New York as Fulbright Scholar. She collaborated with the offices of Emilio Ambasz and Davis & Brody in New York as well as Richard Meier in Los Angeles; she had been visiting professor of architectural design at Syracuse University, University of Texas at Austin, University of Kansas, Kansas State University and the Graduate School of Architecture of Ferrara where she taught from 1997 to 2007. She was one of the four critics of the International Architectural Quartet during the Architecture World Congress in Berlin and has lectured in Italy, Germany, Canada and USA. Her writings have been published in various catalogs and magazines among which Casabella, Detail, Ottagono, Taschen Art series, Parametro, Acoma review of North American studies, Juliet art magazine and arch-it webzine.
In 1998 she co-founded Carlini & Valle, an architectural office that realized a housing complex in Bologna, a public square and parking, various residential projects in Italy and the United States, a restaurant and three showrooms. The office had designed and curated various exhibitions of architecture, urban design and contemporary art including: Marzona Villa Manin a latere exhibition of the Venice Art Biennale in 2001; The Vanishing Curtain. Urban mutations in Eastern Germany; Vuoti d’aria; Spazi d’acqua; Paesaggi esplosi and Verso il fiume. Carlini current architectural projects include a photographic studio and showroom and two house renovations.
