Experience matters
The SUF program started in 1959 and we have never stopped since. We host
over 350 students per semester and take their education abroad seriously.
Our faculty tends to work
with SUF for many years and we promote this stability by recognizing their
research and accomplishments in their fields of study. Many of our staff members
were study abroad students in the past and know what you expect and need
from a program.
Not
that same old cup of espresso
No matter what you are majoring in, we offer a broad range of interesting
and avant-garde academic courses and professional programs. Please see SU
Abroad’s website for a complete listing.

Location counts
Yes,
you want to be in Florence but where you are in the city can influence
your study abroad experience. Did you know that SUF is within a ten-minute
walk to the historic center? We want our students to be able to leave our
campus and take advantage of their surroundings. You can check out a museum
during your lunch break or meet friends for dinner at a Tuscan Trattoria.
We all know that time is precious so knowing that near our campus there
are two supermarkets, numerous coffee bars, a church, bakeries, stores
and numerous other eating establishments means that you can spend more
time doing those
‘other’ things.
We
keep it “in-house”
Students are amazed to find a real campus at
SUF. The program started with one building, the Villa Rossa, which still
holds our administrative offices and classrooms. Over the course of the
years, the campus has grown to five buildings all within a five-minute
walk. Not many study abroad programs offer their students an in-house library, media
lab, computer
lab, wireless hookup, art
gallery, Architecture
studios and Fine Arts studios.
The
numbers say it all
SUF has so much to offer that you probably won’t even have time to feel
homesick but if you need someone to talk to, we have 1 full time acculturation
counselor who can help you with mental health issues, learning disabilities
or make medical referrals. Our English-speaking doctor visits
students 2 times a week. Our 4-day Orientation gives students the right
amount of time to get acquainted with not only the university and what
it has to offer but also gives them the opportunity to get to know other
students. You can choose from over 30 exciting locations in Italy by taking
advantage of SUF’s field studies program.
Nearly 50 PCs are located in different areas of the campus. By participating
in one of over 60 different Internships,
you can earn credit and gain valuable work experience at the same time.
SUF is proud to be the home of an innovative academic resource called the Visual
Resource Collaborative (VRC), a database containing 8,200 catalogued
images. You may
never want to leave our library once
you see its
collection of over 12,000 books, videos,
DVDs and journals.
Safety
comes first
At SUF, we make safety our priority. During the first days of Orientation,
the students are required to participate in mandatory safety meetings with
participation from the Consul of the United States and a representative
of the Florence Police Department. Throughout the semester, our campus
is constantly monitored through the issue of electronic key cards, the
presence of a full-time front desk advisor and the use of security guards.
Most importantly, students are given a cell phone number, which they can
call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for any type of emergency.
