SUF Media Lab

The SUF Media Lab pools images contributed by members of the Syracuse University academic community, outside artists, architects and private donors with images created on-site or scanned by Media Lab staff. The sharing of visual resources benefits the research, teaching, learning and creative work of all members of the Syracuse University community.

Visual Resource Collaborative (VRC) Beta Site

The SUF Media Lab provides access to our pooled images through the Visual Resource Collaborative (VRC) beta site. High-resolution medium and full-screen JPEG images can be viewed online or downloaded for use in classroom lectures and student presentations. Still in its nascent phase, the VRC beta site currently holds almost 2,000 images exclusively for educational use. The collaborative consists primarily of digitized still images of objects, paintings, sculpture and architecture, with some 360-degree interactive panoramic QTVRs and custom-drawn CAD plans. The database includes important works often not reproduced in texts.

The VRC collection comprises primarily art and architecture created on the Italian peninsula from the Etruscans to present day, with a limited selection of comparative works in Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania and the Americas. The number of images will continue to grow with contributions by you and other VRC users. All images are carefully documented and imbedded with cataloguing data including references for date and artist attributions, and the sources for images.

New User Access to VRC Beta Site

SUF faculty and staff members may currently log on to the VRC beta site by using the user name portion of their SUF email address (i.e., if your email address is Ldvinci@syr.fi.it, then your VRC login name will be Ldvinci). If you do not remember your corresponding password, please write to medialab@syr.fi.it.

SUF students and members of the SU home campus who would like user access should write to medialab@syr.fi.it. You will need to submit a valid SU email address for access authorization.
