Personal Laptops
Connecting your Personal Laptop
- Laptops must be able to work on 220/240-volts, 50-cycle current. Many
US laptops will in fact work on 100/240-volts, 50/60-cycle current which
is sufficient for the Italian system.
- If your computer only works on 110/120-volts, 60-cycle current, you
will need a small transformer in order to use it overseas. Transformers
are available in most US electronic stores.
- Whether or not your laptop needs a transformer, you will need an adaptor
specially designed for the Italian electrical outlets. These can be purchased
in the US at stores that carry travel accessories.
Internet access
Students may choose to bring their laptops from home for use on the SUF
campus’ wireless network. Please note the following:
- Laptops cannot be directly connected to the broadband network or phone
lines on the SUF campus but can be used with our wireless network.
- Most host families will probably not allow the use of their phone lines
for computer assess due to the high cost of telephone services but students
may be able to make special arrangements with the family.
- Students living in apartments usually do not have access to an internet
line.
